BritishSpanish Society Scholarship Awards 2025

BritishSpanish Society Scholarship Awards 2025
Drive and innovation from future focussed graduates

Guests from across the BritishSpanish community gathered this week at the Spanish Ambassador’s residence in London to celebrate the achievements of six talented individuals, and their admission to the BritishSpanish Society scholarship award alumni.

Each year university students currently enrolled or about to embark on post-graduate study enter a competitive application process to win a scholarship to support research in their chosen fields of study. The only restrictions being that applicants must be registered on a post-graduate course and be British or Spanish nationals.

Hosted by the Deputy Ambassador Jorge Cabrera Espinos, and presented by corporate partners from sponsors BBVA, Fundación Cañada Blanch and Santander these exceptional post-graduated celebrated winning the highly coveted BritishSpanish Society scholarship award, each receiving £9,000 in financial support.

Chair of the BritishSpanish Society Sir Anthony Cooke-Yarborough spoke of the Society’s huge appreciation of the support received from sponsors, patrons, members and friends, in recognising the importance of providing opportunities for the once ‘nice to have’ scholarships, which have now being a necessity for most post-graduate students.

Trustee Jimmy Burns Marañón OBE presented highlights from each of the winner’s impressive academic careers to-date, with fellow trustee Roger Golland OBE leading a relaxed Q&A session giving each awardee the opportunity to discuss their winning research projects in more detail.

Representatives from the charity’s Principal Supporters presented the scholars with their awards in the presence of academic and business leaders, the charity’s trustees and patrons, and the scholars’ tutors, friends and families.

With two musical scholars amongst our winners we also enjoyed delightful performances from violinist Erola Masqué, and flautist Daisy Noton. The evening ended with a drinks reception courtesy of sponsors Codorníu, MahouSanMiguel and Vichy Catalan, and networking for our new alumni members.
