On Tuesday 18th November a number of our Spain based members and friends attended a wonderful concert organised by La Filarmónica with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra.
This group, originally founded by none other than Mozart’s widow, Constanze, and her two sons, has evolved over more than 180 years into one of Austria’s leading orchestras. As would befit the name of the orchestra, the evening included a piece by Mozart – the Magic Flute – followed by Antonin Dvorak's Concert for Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, with the talented cellist Julia Hagen captivating the audience with her sublime interpretation. The concert ended with the highlight of the evening, one of the most recognisable motifs in music history; Beethoven's 5th Symphony in C minor, Op. 67 (otherwise known as the “Fate Symphony”). The icing on the cake, and the link which first led us to this fantastic concert, was that this whole repertoire was led by the English conductor, Trevor Pinnock CBE.
We felt privileged to have witnessed the concert in the beautiful Auditorio Nacional in Madrid as part of the orchestra's tour of Spain.
Thank you to all our members and guests who joined us for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We are looking forward to participating in future concerts with La Filarmónica. Watch this space!
Our next event in Spain is our Burns Night supper on 24 January. Please visit the events section of our website to book your tickets.
