A group of enthusiastic BritishSpanish Society members, ranging in age from their 20s to … those who once were in their 20s, recently enjoyed their first flamenco class. The event was hosted by Battersea Spanish, a well-established language and Latin cultural centre in Battersea, south-west London, offering flamenco dance courses or, in our case, a one-off introduction to this signature Spanish art form.
So, after a convivial glass of Cava on arrival, we all got ‘in the swing’ with a get-up-and-dance sound track. We learned the flamenco hands, arms, hips and leg movements before putting it all together. We loved it and may even repeat the experience!
The class was followed by more Cava, tapas, ambiente y buena compañía and the night continued.
We hope to return to Battersea Spanish in the autumn for a BSS film night. In the meantime, for more information on courses and public events offered by Battersea Spanish, visit www.batterseaspanish.com
