Barons Court Theatre, Below the Curtain
After its premiere last November at the VOILA Festival, Chop-Chop! is set to take the stage at Barons Court Theatre from 27th to 31st May. This dynamic Spanglish one-woman show, featuring the clashing personas of English and Spanish, offers a fresh (and hilariously chaotic) perspective on cultural identity and self-discovery.
Chop-chop! explores the tension between toxic productivity and procrastination through energetic physical comedy, sharp wit, and playful storytelling. In this eclectic play, bilingual artist Andrea Holland brings these intense opposing forces to life: “Her ability to make both characters relatable, flawed, and endearing is a testament to her talent” (Pink Prince Theatre).
At its core, Chop-chop! is an ode to food and connection. It celebrates the vibrant chaos of bilingual minds, embracing the paradoxes that shape who we are. With satire and humour, the show playfully leans into cultural stereotypes to highlight the inner conflict between two sides of the same identity, drawing from the performer’s own life. Absurd, ridiculous, and laugh-out-loud funny, Chop-chop! holds up a mirror where we can see our own contradictions—and laugh at them.
The creator, Andrea Holland is a performer, theatre-maker, and voice-over artist, born and bred in Spain to a Spanish mother and English father. Drawing on her bilingual roots, she creates feministdriven comedy exploring identity and neurodiversity through humour. Directed by Brazilian theatre-maker Giovanna Koyama, Chop-chop! marks another collaboration between the duo, following Mulheres Que Sangran and Queendom (Camden Fringe 2023). Koyama specialises in Experimental Theatre and Physical Storytelling.
Chop-chop! resonates with anyone who has navigated life between two languages or cultures or to anyone that feels like a “living contradiction”. Praise for Chop-chop!
