The Honoourable Society of the Middle Temple Library
***SOLD OUT***
We are honoured to be permitted to take a small group of members to visit the Middle Temple library in London to hear about their exhibition on Spanish connections to the Middle Temple. Access to the library is usually only open to Inn members.
Middle Temple’s history is long and fascinating, dating back to the 12th Century and the days of the Knight’s Templar which were headquartered in Middle Temple. It is one of four Inns of Court, all located in central London, the other three Inns being Gray’s Inn, Lincoln’s Inn and Inner Temple. Legal professionals wishing to become barristers must register with one of the Inns who provide training and support for English and Welsh barristers, and are the only institutions who can call members to the ‘Bar’.
Middle Temple Library holds three exhibitions a year to highlight special collections held by the Library. Dr Reene Satterley, head of the Middle Temple library, has kindly agreed to give a short talk on Middle Temple’s library and its collections, and (subject to availability) a visit to the Middle Temple hall and bench apartments. Our visit will also include entry to this year’s exhibition ‘Sixteenth to Eighteenth Century Spanish Connections at Middle Temple’.
You can read more about the exhibition ‘Spanish connections to Middle Temple’ here, it celebrates Middle Temple Library’s significant collection of sixteenth and seventeenth century century books published in Spain, and includes some items from the Inn’s Archive on the War of Spanish Succession of 1701-1714.
The visit’s ticket price will include a donation to Middle Temple’s rare book restoration fund.
Max. 20 attendees. Please book early to secure your space. This visit is open to BritishSpanish Society members only.
