Brixton’s Eat Club August Cook Social pays homage to the foodie classic of the same name written by Patience Gray 37 years ago. It is a work the novelist Angela Carter described as “less a cookery book than a summing-up of the genre of late-modern British cookery book” and renowned chef Jeremy Lee calls “remarkably ahead of its time in its knowledge of local and seasonal cooking and forages as part of daily life”.
The event explores the Catalan dishes in Gray’s celebrated book and revels in the flavours and food culture from this north western corner of the Med.
Combining fresh local produce with Catalonian store items and styles of cooking, we’ll guide you through Patience Gray’s simple style of cookery and pass on what she knew – that taking ingredients from the land and knowing how to add richness in the kitchen is the best way of sustaining body and spirit.
