Synopsis
One of the 100 best non-fiction books of the 20th century according to “The Guardian” At the age of thirty, at a time that he defined as a complicated domestic crisis (and “domestic crises are always expensive”), Robert Graves decided from scratch. His need to escape translated into a deep desire to settle accounts with his well-off childhood, with his unhappy years as a schoolboy in one of those English boarding schools that have given so much play to literature, and above all, in overwhelming terms, with his participation in the Great War. Today this book is considered one of the most important autobiographies in European literature and one of the most profound and sincere stories about life in the trenches, the cold, the fear, the camaraderie, the battle, the waiting… and the loss of a generation. Already married and a father, and before embarking for Mallorca, where he lived until the end, and where he wrote I, Claudius or The Greek Myths, Robert Graves left in this book evidence of a lost world, and not only his own. New full translation by Alejandro Pradera, based on the edition set by the author. With original and unpublished photos from the archive of his son William Graves.
