Seminar – British Foreign Policy as a global player and its relations with Spain
The Department of International Relations at Comillas Universidad Pontifica together with the Observatorio Winston Churchill and with the cooperation of the British Embassy in Madrid and the BritishSpanishSociety is holding a day long conference on British Foreign Policy as a global player and its relations with Spain.
The conference day will include the re-opening for a three week period of a special exhibition Churchill & Spain curated by Jimmy Burns, chairman of the Spanish Society at Comillas University, and a special round table discussion with expert academics on Churchill and the shaping of UK Foreign Policy.
Participants will include the British ambassador in Madrid Hugh Elliott; Jose Manuel Rodriguez, Global Head for Government and Institutional Affairs Iberdrola; Harriet Matthews, Deputy Political Director at the Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office; Richard Leather, Managing Director The Moller Institute , Churchill College , Cambridge; Sir Chris Bryant MP; Charles Powell, Director of Real Instituto Elcano; Jimmy Burns Chairman of the BritishSpanish Society; Ricardo Martin de la Guardia History professor University of Valladolid; Stephen Doughty MP – Labour Party Shadow Minister (Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and International Development); Emilio Saes-Frances, Director for International Relations Comillas; Allen Packwood, Director Churchill Archives, Cambridge; – Churchill College Cambridge, Warren Dockter, East Tennessee Historical Society/Aberystwyth University.
