A BritishSpanish member the star of a Jane Austen performance, we couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to see that, so a group of members headed to the Barbican expecting to hear beautiful opera singers, but got more than they bargained for.

One of the talented stars of Autumn Concerts is mezzo-sporano Julia Merino. Knowing how beautiful her performances are we were very excited to hear she was performing in the Guildhall School’s performance of a Jane Austen classic, Mansfield Park.  A group of members headed to the Barbican confident that we were in for a treat listening to Julia, but the evening delivered much more. The entire cast treated us to spectacular individual and ensemble performances, the orchestra were excellent, the costumes simple but hugely effective, the staging clever, and the libretto very amusing. What a joyful way to spend an evening!
