Our summer reception was again blessed with fantastic weather, Spanish culinary delights, wine and beers, and most importantly, the sparkle of friendship and fun.

As the Spanish Ambassador José Pascual Marco welcomed us into his beautiful Belgravia residence, we were reminded of our good fortune in being able to celebrate the enduring relationship between Britain and Spain. Both the Ambassador and BritishSpanish Society Chairman Jimmy Burns Marañon spoke of the importance of the Society’s charitable mission to support post-graduates through the scholarship programme, and we were delighted to count former scholarship winners Nicole Crespo and Laura Casas Cambra amongst the evening’s guests.

This year’s event partners Alimentos de Extremadura and Extremadura Avante brought a flavour of the region to the evening. Chefs Juan Burgos and Augusto Diez delivered a menu of gastronomic delights including, salmorejo, crema de ajoblanco, zorongollo and of course jamón ibérico carved by Spanish Ham Master José Sol. Partners from across the region showcased their products and we were able to enjoy the region’s higos in the form of bonbones alongside a selection of wines and, not specifically Extremadurian but representing Spain in its entirety, Alhambra beers from MahouSanMiguel.

Thank you to all our patrons, corporate supporters, event partners, trustees and of course, our members. Special evenings such as the summer party are such amazing successes because of your openness, friendliness and commitment to the promotion of our wonderful countries and cultures. Here’s to another year of celebrating all things BritishSpanish and supporting the charity’s upcoming intake of winning scholars.
