At this ‘in conversation’ event on November 2, live in London and also streamed online, we heard a lively and topical conversation between Anglo-Spanish journalists Jimmy Burns Marañón and Tomás Hill López-Menchero on the English Premier League and La Liga and other football stories from the UK and Spain.
A recording of the event is available to watch here Password: 4#u.RefQ
BSS chairman Burns Marañón OBE enjoyed a long career as a journalist at the Financial Times. He regularly contributes on BritishSpanish related content and, through his work as an author, including books published on our topic for the event, football., British and Spanish football.
The young journalist Tomás Hill López-Menchero is also a BritishSpanish Society member. He has already won awards for his early work whilst at university. He is enjoying a successful journalistic career in sports and in his current role of junior sports editor at the Athletic.
Together they’ discussed the passionate subject of The Premier League (past, present and future) subject of a new book in Spanish by Burns (reviewed in the last La Revista) and readable on the BSS website) and stories from Spanish football including the enduring Real Madrid/FC Barcelona rivalry, and the challenges faced by women footballers.
Following the Q&A session attendees enjoyed a beer courtesy of our sponsors Mahou, and some nibbles.
Thanks to our hosts for the evening Instituto Español Vicente Cañada Blanch and its director Antonio Simon Saiz, the event was also available to join online, and recorded.
