Summer isn’t summer without the BritishSpanish Society summer reception!
What an evening! We have already been inundated with positive comments about this year’s summer party, we love hearing from members about how much they enjoy events and it seems this year’s party was a favourite amongst our guests. Thank you all for joining us and making it such a wonderful BritishSpanish evening.

Thank you to Codorniu for supplying an extra touch of elegance, there’s no better welcome to a summer party than a glass of something cool and sparkling. As our guests arrived the twitters of conversation erupted into a roar and the room became full of smiles, kisses and hugs as old friendships were reunited and new ones formed. We quietened just enough to hear welcomes from the Ambassador and our Chairman, enjoying José Pascual Marco’s comments on Jimmy Burns’s claim in his new book that the Premier League is the best league in the world. We are grateful to the Ambassador and the embassy staff for hosting us, we know how much our members appreciate being able to visit the Ambassador’s residence, particularly for a party on a warm summer evening.
We were treated to a sumptuous menu of Murcian delights from Comunidad de Murcia and star chef Juan Pellicer and his team. Dish after beautiful dish arrived to delight our tastebuds, we certainly got a taste of why Murcia gained its title of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy in 2020. The coastline of Murcia was brought to London with dishes of atun rojo encebollando, tartar de bonito and regional favourite marineras. Murcia’s famous vegetables also made an appearance with ravioli de zarangollo, caballitos de alcachofa and and aceitunas gordales Huertas. There was, of course a huge paella, cheese and jamones alongside a selection of wines from across the region.
As the party got into full swing with popular hits from the 80s making even the most reluctant feet tap we enjoyed the best of Mahou beers and danced the evening away.
As a favourite in our events calendar we hope that all our members and guests had a fantastic evening and received a warm BritishSpanish welcome. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again at the British Embassy in Madrid this autumn.
Thank you again to our members and kind supporters who ensured the evening’s fun also raised funds for the charity’s work, including our scholarship scheme. Thank you Codorniu, Mahou and Region de Murcia for providing such wonderful food and drink and supporting our work.
