‘Leighton and Landscape” at Leighton House – new exhibition opening 16 Nov 2024

Trustees were honoured to receive a very special invitation from Leighton House to represent the Society at the opening event of this brand new exhibition. Dame Mary, Vice Chair of the Society, one of the trustees attending this magnificent event in the home and studio (for the last three decades of his life from 1866 through to 1899) of Frederic Leighton, gives her account of the visit. 

The particular attraction of the exhibition is the large number of Leighton’s personal landscape paintings completed on his travels around Europe and in particular in Spain in 1866 and 1877.  I was totally captivated by The Bay of Cadiz, Moonlight.

I was pleased to hear that our events team are planning a visit in the New Year for our members to this distinctive exhibition, as well as Leighton’s glorious home all beautifully restored in recent years.  Make sure you book early to go!
