One of Sitges’s most popular sports bars, Tres Cuarts (RugbyThree-Quarters) was the appropiate setting for the celebration of this year’s prize winner for the best article published in La Revista.
The article ‘Rugby in Spain’ in last summer’s issue was written by a regular contributor and BritishSpanish Society member, retired rugby player and English teacher Dominic Begg, a long-time British resident in Spain, who has spent of his youth and adult life promoting the sport, not least in his adopted home town of Sitges in Catalunya.
Dominic was unable to attend the formal prize winning , sponsored by the University of Navarra, at the Society’s annual Christmas party in London. However friends and family gathered on the Spanish festive January 6th -day of the Epiphany or el Dia de Los Reyes-at his local bar which is a favourite among Rugby and FC Barcelona enthusiasts.
Those joining in the celebratory toast included Dominic’s daughter Emily and grandson Liam-both Rugby players-wife Maggie, and son James, a journalist, other members of the British hispanofile diaspora , local novelist Edwin Winkels, and Walter Starkie’s biographer Jaquie Hurtley . The University of Navarra prize certificate was presented to Dominic by the BSS Society’s chairman Jimmy Burns who has a holiday family home in Sitges.
